Dronacharya

Today we continued our Mahabharat Unit studying the life of another prominent character "Dronacharya'.
Drona, the son of  sage Bharadwaj and  Drupada , prince of Prishata were childhood friends. They went to the same gurukul  and grew up in each other's company. Drupada promised his friend that when he becomes king, Drona was always welcome at his palace. Drona remembers his friend's words and in time of need approaches him. Drupada refuses to accept him citing the reason that he was a king and Drona a poor brahmin cannot be his equal.  Drona who is deeply insulted wants revenge.  He had acquired great knowledge in arms, and archery from Parashuram. Drona ends up being the teacher of the Kuru Princes.  Arjuna was his favorite student and he promises to make Arjuna the most skilled warrior on earth. Arjuna had in turn promised his guru that he would do anything for him once he completes his training.  Drona gets his revenge at Drupada in the hands of skilled Arjuna.
Although Drona favored the Pandavas, he had to be an ally of the Kauravas in the war because of his duty towards the throne of Hastinapur. Arjuna was faced with a difficult decision of fighting against his guru.
