Story of Young Kunti/ Birth & Childhood of Pandavas & Kauravas

We continued our Mahabharat unit by introducing the main characters of the story.  We learnt about how Kunti got a boon from sage Durvasa and used it obtain a son with Surya dev - named Karna. Kunti  put Karna in a basket and floated him down the river, the baby was found by Athiratha a charioteer and his wife Radha who raised him.
Dhritharashtra & Pandu the young princes of Hastinapur get married to Gandhari & Kunti/Madri respectively. SInce Dhritharashtra was blind, Pandu was installed as the king of Hastinapur. Pandu, unfortunately was cursed by Rishi Kindama who was disguised as a deer and ends up getting killed by Pandu.
Pandu gives up his throne and retires to the forest with his wives. Dhritharashtra thus becomes king of Hastinapur.  In due course Kunti and Madri have 5 sons - the Pandavas and  Gandhari gives birth to 100 sons  - the Kauravas.  Rishi Kindama's curse eventually comes true and Padu's death happens.  Kunti returns to Hastinapur with her 5 sons.
The Kauravas and Pandavas never got along well and that enemity only continues to grow as the  Princes of Hastinapur grow older.
